Quick Fixes: Four Common Website Blunders
Your website should be the biggest asset in your marketing arsenal, but simple mistakes could be costing you customers and ultimately…revenue. Businesses with great products or services held back by an underperforming website.
Let’s fix that.
Here are some of the most common (and costly) website mistakes:
Slow Load Time
Visitors leave if your site takes too long to load, especially on mobile. Too large images are usually the first place to check. Size them down and reupload. A good benchmark for image size is less than 250kb. If its a big juicy background image, a little larger is ok, but try to keep your images as low-file size as possible for faster page loading.
Confusing Navigation Menu
If people can’t find what they need in a few seconds, they’ll search elsewhere, and not on your site. Your top navigation menu should only have a handful of priority links, with related topics falling under main topics in a dropdown menu. You can always use the footer of your pages to link to deeper content sections, utilize some keywords, and get to granular content.
Meh Mobile Experience
At the very least, more than 50% of visitors browse on their cell phones. If your site isn’t optimized for mobile view, you're missing out on 50% of potential customers. In Squarespace, use the Mobile View to clean up and rearrange sections and copy blocks, tighten up negative space, expand buttons and images that might default to smaller sizes than you’d like visitors to see on a phone.
Weak (or worse…missing) Calls to Action (CTAs)
If your website doesn’t guide visitors toward the next step, they’ll leave without signing up, purchasing, contacting you – whatever you’re most wanting them to do. Don’t just leave visitors hanging at the bottom of a page, show them what to do next, or encourage an action to buy something, sign up for a newsletter, contact you, something/anything but a dead end.
Don’t have the time?
