Heritage pigs, CSA, Certified Organic

While I’ve been a web and graphic designer for more than 20 years, I fell in love with pigs and organic farming after moving to Vermont.

I poured every ounce of energy into both around 2015, and after that energy (and money!) ran dry in 2023, I had to fold up shop. Farming was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but something had to give.

The farm began as a heritage pig/piglet operation in Berlin, Vermont in 2015, and expanded to include pasture-raised laying hens and certified organic vegetables sold in a farm stand and small CSA from 2020-2023. Scaling up the farm to include a CSA and farm market while a pandemic descended upon the planet presented myriad challenges, but it endured at a small scale until time, money, and energy deemed it no longer sustainable for me, the farmer.

It was fun (and harrowing) while it lasted, and I don’t regret a single aspect of the experience, especially the customers, farmers, organizations, and local businesses I encountered and worked with and for.

Hands down one of my favorite moments during this farm’s life was an impromptu visit from Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, promoting his Farm-to-School program.
